Pune warriors - Sahara Wins Pune IPL Bid 2010

Sahara Adventure Sports group, part of Sahara Group had won the Pune Franchise in the IPL bid 2010 for a whopping sum of 370 dollar million. The company had bid for three cities Ahmadabad, Nagpur and Pune and had chosen Pune as their base.The Sahara group had chosen Pune based on the logistics and infrastructure facilities available in the city.

The other team that had won the bid was Kochi and both these teams will be in fray for the 2011 IPL Twenty20 league  season.There were five groups for the bid and Rendezvous sports group had won the Kochi bid for $333.33 million.The other groups that had participated in the bid was Pune consortium , Adani Groups and VC Digital Solution (Videocon).Adani Group had bid for $315 million and Pune consortium had bid for $261.3 million.

The base price for bidding was  $ 225 million and franchise fee has been for a period of ten years.The two teams that had won the bid will joins the eight teams in IPL .The number of scheduled matches has been increased to 94 with the entry of two more teams.

The bidding was scheduled to be held on March 7 ,2010 in Mumbai and had been rescheduled after the bidders and BCCI had decided to change the strong financial clause.The bidders want to remove a clause that stipulated that the bidding companies should have a net worth of $ one billion.That was agreed by the IPL management team.The entry fees clause of the bid had been opposed by the  BCCIPresident and secretary and the reason that had been put forward was that it was not part of earlier auctions.

The advance deposit clause or performance guarantee  had been reduced from $100 billion to $ ten billion  by the IPL management team.The other change was that the winner of the bid will be asked  only ten  percent of the winning bid in 48 hours.It was only after making the above changes ,bidding took place.

Sahara Pune Warriors had appointed former Australian Opener Geoff Marsh  as  head coach and Dermot Reeve as the assistant coach.

After effects of Afridi retirement on Pakistan Cricket Board

Shahid Afridi  stunned Pakistan Cricket Board and its supporters with the decision to quit Test cricket after the second game of their series against Cricket  Australia. The decision was announced by Afridi himself after losing the first test of the two match series played against Australia in a neutral venue at Lords.Pakistan Cricket has to act faster to find a suitable replacement for the upcoming England Test series which is slated to begin  after the ongoing series against Australia.

 Pakistan Cricket which had gained momentum after defeating Australia in the Twenty Twenty series was taken  a step backwards with the retirement decision of Afridi.The key question was the timing of Shahid Afridi and there has been remarks that Pakistan Cricket Board should rename itself as Pakistan Confused board.

The former  Pakistan international players has been quick to jump against Pakistan Board and Shahid Afridi, Javed Mianadad, former captain of Pakistan  and Director General of Pakistan Cricket Board had said that he had been pained at the way Afridi has conducted himself on the retirement issue and he thought  that it has been a violation of code of conduct as team management was not taken into confidence.

Sources in Pakistan Board was of the opinion that Afridi had the capabilities of leading Pakistan  Cricket in Test Cricket for along time as he  was a great motivator of team.The 30 year old Afridi had been forced to come back into test cricket following the PCB  indefinite bans to former skipper Younus Khan and Mohammad Yousuf.The ban had been lifted but Yousuf had retired from international cricket  and Younus is not a member of this current Pakistan team.

Pakistan Cricket board is under pressure to recall Mohammad Yousuf and Younis Khan to bolster the test team . 35 year old Mohammed Yosuf had said on July 19  2010  that he is ready to come out of retirement provided he is invited with due respect.

Pakistan Cricket Board will find it difficult to have an easy decision on Mohammed Yosuf as Yousuf has not appealed against indefinite ban.It will not be easy ride for the board to get Pakistan Test Cricket on tracks after the Shahid Afridi issue.

It was on the 2^nd of Dec 2009 when the 3^rd Test match between Sri Lanka and Cricket India started. It was Indian Cricket hero who contributed to the most of the scores, guess who, it was none other than Sehwag! It wasn’t a very difficult task for him to score double century, he was just 16 runs away from creating a record of completing his triple century on that day of the match.

After Don Bradman from Cricket Australia, and Hammond from England, it’s Sehwag who scored a double century of 284 in a day’s match and with this he has bagged the third place in the history of centuries.

It wasn’t any easy for the Cricket Sri Lankan players to stop Sehwag from hitting centuries. It looked like they were in the battlefield fighting against Sehwag from scoring his runs. With 40 Boundary Shots and 7 over the ropes, Sehwag managed to score 293 runs. He backed by not scoring just 7 runs which would have led him to complete his triple century.
